The decision to present this essay on a blog not only allows me to incorporate various forms of media—it re-creates my academic performance. The posting of the essay in an online forum allow the world, as well as the professor, read and respond to my performance of the assignment. Digital space, in my view, allows an extensive amount of creative freedom in how this essay might be performed.

Rather than plain black words on plain white paper, my performance of the assignment can be displayed on different pages utilizing different media to complement the work. Just as the content of my essay wishes to link theatrical performance with the reality of a truly democratic society, so too does the actual performance of the text of the essay. It is in this space that a discipline, academic writing, is linked into contemporary technology and communication. We live in a time where communication and ideas are widely transmitted across the world via the internet—it is my belief that academia should embrace evolving modes of communication and is why I have chosen the internet to be the stage for my academic performance.
